1. Operating Principle and Applications
Float collars and float shoes are casing devices that provide buoyancy and help guide the casing into the wellbore during cementing operations. They are durable,seal well,easy to connect,and can be drilled through, making them suitable replacements for traditional guide shoes and casing shoes.They can be used for standard casings,reservoir casings, deep wells,ultra-deep wells,and special process wells.
During cementing,float collars and foat shoes are often used together to:
Guide the casing into the wellbore
Adjust the buoyancy to manage the force on the casing
Prevent cement suny fom fowing back into the casing wih a back-pressure valve
Control the height of the cement plug to ensure quality cementing
Our company mass-produces PDC drillable float collars and float shoes for standard and high-temperature/high-pressure (HTHP) applications.The standard type is suitable for simpler conditions with a maximum pressure of 35 MPa,while the HTHP type withstands up to 200ºC and 70 MPa.Both types meet API 5CT material standards and can use steel grades like K55,L80,and P110,with threads conforming to API 5B standards.Burst and collapse pressure ratings follow API TR 5C3,and durability tests exceed API 10F requirements
(D24:24-hour flow,R10:10 bpm flow rate,T400:400F,P7.5: 7500 psi back pressure).
Lengths can be customized based on customer needs,especially for HTHP float collars and shoes,where length varies with single or double valve configurations.Custom models/specifications are available upon request.
2. Technical Features and Advantages
The float collar,similar in structure to the float shoe,has a male thread at the lower end to connect to the casing and is installed 20-30 meters from the bottom of the casing string.The float shoe,installed at the very bottom of the casing string,connects to the casing at the upper end and has a hemispherical cement head at the lower end. Typically,there are 1-2 joints of casing between the float collar and float shoe.
